The waters of our sea, being close to the Equator, should be warm and tropical in nature, with an average temperature of 23° to 24°. However, this does not happen because there are agents, such as cold currents, that modify it. Only in the northern zone, between Tumbes and Piura, is the water tropical warm, while in the central and southern zones the temperature is cold, fluctuating between 17° to 19°, due to the influence of the Humboldt current and the phenomenon of the upwelling of deep cold waters.

It is the amount of salts contained in marine waters per liter of water. In the case of our sea there are between 34 to 35 gr. being of greater percentage in the waters of the North than in those of the South.

It varies from a greenish color, near the coast, due to the algae and microscopic substances that it drags (planckton), to a dark blue color far from the coast. On the coast of Tumbes, it also sometimes has a lead-blue color due to the strong discharge of the rivers and the rainfall that occurs in this area.

The measures needed to strengthen fisheries control have a broad spectrum and range from the creation of the National Superintendence of Fisheries and Aquaculture to greater control of Peruvian fishing ports where foreign vessels land and fish both inside and outside the Peruvian maritime domain.

One of the tools that have proven to be most effective in the protection and recovery of fisheries are marine protected areas. With effective control of extractive activities in strategic areas, the species of interest can show positive impacts on the resources inside and outside the protected areas, ensuring the abundance of the resources.

The following types of zoning can be found: strict protection, wilderness, tourist and recreational use, direct use, special use, and historical-cultural recovery. In the strict protection and wilderness zones, fishing activities that alter habitats are prohibited.

that alters the habitats. Scientific research, education, and recreation are allowed, with prior evaluation and authorization from the headquarters. In the recovery zone (Isla Lobos de Tierra), fishing is permitted, but for entry to the area, the area is closed (both spatially and temporally).

In the recovery zone (Isla Lobos de Tierra), fishing activity may be carried out, but for entry into the area, the following are permitted: fishing closures (both spatial and temporal), global catch quotas (total catch quota or maximum total allowable catch limit), fishing gear and methods, restricted areas, research requirements, fishing protocols, and fishing regulations.
